Links Beyond Well - Value Added Blogging

Why re-create the wheel?  My mission is to provide the best information to you and there are a lot of great writers and thinkers out there who have already put together excellent stuff.  In addition to original pieces, I'll do my best to sort gold from B.S. and will post links in this manner as I come across unique pieces worth sharing.

Get Bigger Muscles By ... Walking? -- Mike O'Donnell, Fitness Spotlight
"This biggest mistake people make nowadays is doing too much. More is not going to be better, especially if you are doing it with too much intensity and too often. Your body just doesn’t work that way and your hormones won’t respond optimally."
Paleo in a Nutshell Part 1: Food -- YouTube
"This video describes the rationale and philosophy behind eating as our ancestors did and provides me and hopefully you with a way to tell others why it makes sense."

Paleolithic Nutrition: Get Started -- Kurt G Harris, PaNu
"How do you do it?  Here is a 12- step list of what to do. Go as far down the list as you can in whatever time frame you can manage. The further along the list you stop, the healthier you will be. There is no counting, measuring, or weighing. You are not required to purchase anything specific from me or anyone else. There are no special supplements, drugs or testing required."

Weighing the Evidence on Exercise -- Gretchen Reynolds, New York Times
"The newest science suggests that exercise alone will not make you thin, but it may determine whether you stay thin, if you can achieve that state."

"The China Study": A Formal Analysis and Response (Clink link on page to DL PDF) -- Denise Minger, Raw Food SOS
"I propose that Campbell’s hypothesis is not altogether wrong but, more accurately, incomplete. While he has skillfully identified the importance of whole, unprocessed foods in achieving and maintaining health, his focus on wedding animal products with disease has come at the expense of exploring—or even acknowledging—the presence of other diet-disease patterns that may be stronger, more relevant, and ultimately more imperative for public health and nutritional research."
Food for kids…(what to pack for lunch, quick breakfast, and more…) -- Sarah Fragoso, CrossFit Trainer - Wife - Mother of Three. [be sure to check out her archives for some family-friendly, paleo recipes]
"If I had a dollar for every time someone has asked me, “What do you feed your kids when eating Paleo?” I would be a gazillionaire… The short answer is, they eat what I make - and what I allow in my house."
Bon appetit!

  1. Thanks for posting this PJ--it is just what I needed. As you know, I sometimes get into the "over-training realm" and have difficulty getting out of it until it is too late. In the past, this has lead to crappy WOD performances and a deflated ego!

REST is key to making gains...it has taken me awhile to establish that discipline, but I have finally learned. Kind of a reverse way of thinking though, huh? The majority of people have a tough time GOING to the gym, while we have a tough time NOT GOING! Hehe...we're fitness whores! ;)
